Coaching Methods

Next Level Rugby's coaching methods ensure the optimal learning environment for player development.

Players will be split into appropriate age groups for every session.

Each session will be made up of 4 x 20 minute training stations. 3 rugby skills stations, a 1 strength & conditioning station.

NLR will use a variety of different coaching methods, including:

  • Isolated practice (live drill) - affords a high level of reps with variation, decision making, & adaptation of their technique.

  • Conditioned game - a game based activity in which the coach sets out specific game rules/conditions in order to tease out certain skills or behaviours from the players.

  • Adaptive game - in these games the coach will set a real game scenario, challenge or problem to overcome, in the process developing teamwork, problem solving, leadership, communication, resilience skills.

With each method coaches will be very deliberate about the given skill practiced and players will be asked to engage with each activity with attention, intensity, & intent.
